THE FUTURE OF LISTENING
DOMES FM, Melodic Distraction & SHOP Preston, UK
May 2022 - October 2023

The Future of Listening is an audio archive of 19 ancient woodlands threatened by the development of the HS2 Phase 2b train line. The work considers how we attribute value to our (post) nature spaces, beyond economics.

Presented in radio broadcast on DOMES FM / Melodic Distraction and as a spatialised sound exhibition (7:1) at SHOP Preston. Installation co-designed with Lee Ivett of Baxendale Architects to facilitate a deep listening experience. Imagined as a discursive space, participants were invited to consider listening as an ecological act, before sharing their responses over a cup of  healing tea, made from the foraged nettles and blackberry leaves of Bollin Bank Wood.

You can listen to the archive on soundcloud. For the spatialised audio, headphones will provide the best experience.
