July - August 2024
Part of an ongoing series of works to explore how rest can be employed as a tool for ecological activism. How can we spend restful time with our more-than-human friends to facilitate compassion? What does a reciprocal, regenerative relationship look like? How can artistic acts such as deep listening, close looking, walking and making with the materiality of the (post)natural world connect us more deeply? How do we work towards the fostering of kinship and care?
We asked these questions collectively during a week long summer school at the Wysing Art Centre, bringing together young people who live in rural contexts. Sharing time to rest, relax, make and explore. Activities included collage with found materials, foraging, cooking, walking, forest bathing and field recording - with a healing ceremony to celebrate our time together.
